Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

My aunt passed away on 3/21/10. My brother and I were acting as her power of attorney prior to her death. She did not leave a will and her children are estranged. What needs to be done to close her bank account and handle any other financial matters. The only outstanding bill is the balance owed to the funeral home. After that is taken care of, what should be done regarding the distribution of her remaining money.

Unfortunately for you, the power of attorney expired on your aunt's date of death. If she did not leave a will, the assets will pass according to the laws of intestacy in Pennsylvania. You need to be very careful not to distribute any assets unless you are named administrator of the estate. This question really requires a lot more discussion.
