Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Rhode Island

I had taken my daughter to a dermatologist which i was refered to, at this appointment it seemed as though the doctor was just rushing me out of his office. he looed at my daughters warts which are located on her stomach. i asked how she could have gotten these and he responded many kids have these type of warts and they are not serious you will just need to apply this cream..he then wrote me a prescription for Aldara. when i go to pick up this prescription the pharmicist tells me it costs $700. now this doctor knew i had medical throught the state so i obviously couldnt afford it. i then went home to look up this prescription just to get some information on it. Online it stated that aldara should not be given to children under the age of 12 years old..my daughter is only 4. so had i had the money for this medication and bought it..what would have happend to my daughter?

Thanks for your question. I am very familiar with Aldara and have personally used it. An online opinion is not always accurate. I find them useful only as a starting point and a basis for asking questions. What did the dermatologist tell you when you questioned him about Aldara for a 4 year old?

As for the cost and that you are on "state medical," how does that matter? Aldara is not covered under the state plan? How would the doctor know that?

As to what would have happened to your daughter, no one can predict with certainty. Certainly, an attorney without a medical degree is not qualified to answer it. All man-made drugs carry downsides.

I think you are hesitant to return to that dermatologist because of how you think he mistreated you. Why not seek another and if Aldara is again prescribed, ask about the contraindications you heard about for a 4 year old. After all, we need to successfully treat your daughter. Best wishes
