Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

custody

I left my husband 5 months ago. I have not filed any papers nor have I officially asked for a divorce. My husband wants to reconcile, I do not. I am currently cohabitating with another male. How will this affect me if I have to go through a custody battle? By the way I also work in a strip club.

Re: custody

Custody is decided on what the court finds is in the "best interest of the child." I don't know anything else about your situation, nor about your husband's, and therefore cannot tell you how your living arrangements and your occupation would affect the court's decision. I can however tell you that the courts frown upon a spouse living with a person intimately and not being married to that person. Also, although you are separate, as long as you are still married, livig with this person is still adultery. As far as working in a strip club, that alone will not be real harmful, as the courts realize that many people work in strip clubs that are also wonderful parents. However, that could be used against you if husband attacks your life style along with other allegations that the court would find as an impoper invironment for the child. Robert J. Johnston.
