Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina

Car Accident

I was the middle car of a three car accident. The sheriff wrote two reports and cited myself and the car behind me with ''following to close''. The car behind hit me first and pushed me into the car in front. I have a court date on 5/9 and plan to go plead innocent. Can you tell me what I should take and what to expect in court.

Re: Car Accident

I would suggest that you FIRST get in touch with your insurance company. The results of this charge could have an effect on any civil litigation out of the accident (personal injury, etc.) Call your insurance company and give them the information. In some cases, they will hire a criminal attorney to help you with the traffic charge in a case like this, as it could help you in proving no liability in the civil case. Otherwise, just be prepared to testify as to the cause of the accident, the fact that you were stopped at a reasonable distance from the car in front of you, etc. I would also request a jury trial, as this will give you more time to talk to the insurance company and find out if they can assist you.
