Legal Question in Traffic Law in South Carolina

Summons for Traffic Accident

I received a summons for a minor auto accident I was involved in over one year ago. I accidentally rear-ended a driver on a busy road in early a.m. traffic. I immediately got out and asked if the driver was o.k. and offered to give him my insurance and contact information. He insisted that he was fine, that it was just a ''tap'' and that it was not necessary to give him my insurance information. Foolishly, I reluctantly agreed - now I am being sued for up to $7,500 to cover medical fees. Do I have any rights? How can I begin to defend this? Also, my name was spelled incorrectly on the claim.
