In your Last Will and Testament you do not have to name a second person (alternate guardian) for custody of your children or name a second person (an alternate/successor) person to act as your personal representative. You may not have someone in mind that you trust to place in these positions. If you do have someone that you trust that you are comfortable naming in these positions I certainly recommend that you name them. If you do not name alternates in your Will at this time, you can change your Will to add them at any time during your lifetime (as long as you remain competent). In the event that, God forbid, something were to happen to your brother, you could update your Will and name someone else into these positions. I hope this information will help and please thank your brother for his service.
