Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Need advice on divorce.

Can you file for divorce if you and your spouse agree on terms without a lawyer and just go to court? Maybe like file yourself.

You will need a lawyer. If it is uncontested and you and your spouce are in agreement concerning the division of the property, children etc., then I will handle your divorce for a flat fee of $500. You will be responsible for the filing fee and court cost of approximately $200.

I disagree entirely with the response of Mr. Waldrop. You are not required to use an attorney to get a divorce.... but you also don't have to use a dentist to have a cavity filled. It is generally a mistake to try to handle legal matters yourself, but if you insist on trying, you are very well advised to talk with an attorney to at least guide you through the process and to make sure you are ding things right. Most attorneys are reluctant to do that, but some will and you can sometimes save money doing it that way, IF you have an idea of how to prepare the paperwork in the first place and the attorney is simply discussing matters with you to assure that there are no issues that may come back to haunt you later.
