Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Tennessee

Breaking a Lease

We are currently in a lease with an Apartment complex. We are buying a house, and wish to terminate our lease, however, they want almost $3,000 to do so. I have heard that in Tennessee that if you are a first time buyer, you can not be penalized for terminating a lease. Is there such a law?

Re: Breaking a Lease

There is no such law in Tennessee. Under the terms of most leases you will be liable for the remaining term of your lease.
