Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Tennessee

I paid my mortgage off in full. They, Chase, sent my escrow fund to me in a check but, I have not received any other documents. What exactly should I be getting from them?

Your lender should provide you with a "Release Deed" or "Satisfaction" document which needs to be filed in the local Register's office. Often the lender will do this directly. You can check with your county Register and see if the release has already been filed. Your zip code indicates that you are in Shelby County. If so, the Register has a website at:

http://register.shelby.tn.us/

where you can look to see if the release can be filed. If it has not been filed, you need to send a demand, in writing, by US Mail for them to release it withing 45 days of the letter. If the lender does not, they may be subject to statutory penalties.
