Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas

I was working at a local beauty supply store for six months when a young lady left behind a coin purse. I picked it up and called the young lady to inform her she left it. She didn't not answer but a few hrs later she came back to the store and picked it up. Two days later I get a call that she is saying she never picked it up. The police were called and the officer clamied it as a lost item and it was, to my knowledge, dropped. The following day the company received many harrassing calls from the young ladys mother saying I stole her coin purse which contained 250 dollars. This resulted in my being suspended from work for a week. The following week the lady changed her story saying the purse containted 750 dollars. I was fired from job and am now unemployed. I am lost and feel like I can not find a job because she has ruined my crediability. I am wondering if there is a case in which I can sue here for defamation of character and loss of wages. If so where do I start?

You can sue her for slander and for tortious interference with contract (your employment contract with your employer). The filing fee in county court at law will be about $150.00.
