Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas

Using html redirect meta tags

A local radio station is accusing me of hacking into their website. All I did was to use an html redirect meta tag on a thread on the message board. I redirected the thread to another message board. Because I did this, they are threatening me with a lawsuit, and they posted my whole families personal information on their website. Our full names, passwords, and email information. Is what I did illegal? There was not a rule against using html on their message board. I am scared to death at their threats. Help me please.

Re: Using html redirect meta tags

I assume you are a valid account holder at the site, if registration is required to submit posts on the message board.

If there was no provision in the site's Terms and Use, you would have a good argument that your actions were not prohibited, assuming you simply posted an HTML link to another message board.

There is also an issue of whether the site violated its own Privacy Policy, assuming they have one, in distributing your information.

If you would like to discuss this further, please call my office at (512) 258-9082.
