Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

hospital bill balance

I was in the hospital emergency room for a total of 3 Hours on Oct. 10, 2007 at a cost of $7,200...for a kidney stone which I was sent home to pass. I have in these 3 months paid the balance down to $4,600. I was called by a collection agency in Dec. 2007 which said that in March 2008 they intend to ruin my ''excellent'' credit rating. I have been told by several people that in the state of Texas that there is a statute that says that I can make payments on a hospital bill as long as I ''make a continuing effort to pay the balance owed each and every month'' and never miss a monthly payment. I did not sign any payment plan nor did my husband that night that I was at the hospital nor have we since then. I intend to pay the outrageous bill...each and every month until it is paid-in-full. Thank you for any clarification on this problem. (We honestly thought that the total bill would be probably $500 to 700, not $7,200!)

Re: hospital bill balance

Hospitals frequently send ALL accounts not paid in full to a collection agency after 90 days. Protect your credit by going directly to the hospital accounts receivables department. Demonstrate your prior payments and make an written arrangement with the hospital which includes pulling the account from collections and issuing a favorable credit report, if you abide by the terms of the agreement.
