Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Paying Off Credit Card Debt

I hear alot of debt settlement companies lowering or reducing debt. Is this a good idea? May I do this myself without the company (middleman) Will my credit be worse after even though the debt is paid? Just curious

Re: Paying Off Credit Card Debt

Generally, my past clients have not used those businesses because they seem to take an extremely long time and some even resulted in problems that I had to clean up. You can always negotiate with anyone on your own, but having the assistance of an attorney may prove to be of a benefit to you. If my law firm can assist you with this legal matter or any other legal issue, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]).

Re: Paying Off Credit Card Debt

I had two different clients use these companies with nightmare results. It took several years to negotiate the debts/judgments and undo some of the damage.

A better idea would be to negotiate yourself, or to use a nonprofit debt counselor -- call the BBB for a referral. Good luck.
