Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

My husband and I rented a house and about 3 months later my husband decided he wanted a divorce so he moved out. I tried my best to pay the rent, which was $1250 month plus take care of the kids. I had to get out of the house because I lost my job and it was draining me dry. I told this to my landlord and he said to write him checks but that he wouldn't cash them until I said it was okay. However, he cashed them anyway. In fact the only way he was able to cash them was because I had just gotten my student loan payment in, which meant that I had no money and could not go to school that semester. My husband has paid for his half but the landlords are harrassing me about my half. I am trying to give them whatever I can until the debt is paid off ($2200) but it is very hard for me. I am willing to work with them but I just don't have that much to fork over right now. To make matters worse my ex-husband is telling them personal financial information about me such as money that my parents send me to help me with bills and groceries. My question is this: Since both me and my husband's names are on the lease, are we both liable or am I liable for half? They are threatening to put me in jail over this.

1. You absolutely won't go to jail for breaking a lease.

2. Your landlord is a scumbag. Tell him I said so.

3. Change banks NOW, and don't tell your husband where you moved your month.

4. Don't give your "landlord" another cent. If he calls you, tell him that from now on, you will only communicate with him in writing. If he asks why, tell him he's a scumbag. Then hang up the phone.

Feed your children, and save your money for a good divorce lawyer.
