Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Texas

Alias instead of Name Change

I am wondering what it takes to obtain a legal alias. I am a musician and I want to use a stage name. Do I have to do this through the law, or can I just use the name. I don't want to change my legal name, I just want to use an alias.
