Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

custody of grandson

My daughter wants me to keep her son until she can get on her feet. Jeremy is 4 and I am 55 - I still work and can afford to keep him.

Re: custody of grandson

That is a kind and generous thing for you to do. Hire a lawyer in your county to prepare and obtain conservatorship for yourself.

If you want custody, you will need to go to court and file a Suit Affecting the Parent Child Relationship (SAPCR). You can become a Possessory Conservator and your daughter can have visitation rights. Once she gets on her feet, this can be changed back. That way you would have all parental rights for school, doctors and hospitals if necessary. Find a lawyer to do this for you. Good Luck.
