Kristi who lives in CherryHill, NJ wants to sue ABC movie theatres, whose principle place of business is in Dallas, Texas. She claims tht while she was in Dallas on vacation, she was injured by their negligence maintenance of a stairway in their theater. She wants to claim damages of $30,000.00. However, she doesn't know which court(s) has jurisdiction over this type of case.

most likely, you would need to sue in Texas. IF you damages were higher, you could sue in Federal court in New Jersey

In Texas, suit is filed either in the county of the Defendant's residence/principal place of business, where the incident happened, or where the plaintiff resides. The proper venue would most likely be Dallas County, Texas. We practice in Dallas County.
