Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

getting land in my name

My grandmother has given us a piece of property, we have been paying the taxes on it for several years. We have procrastinated in getting the form that we need to have signed putting it in our name. We cannot remember the name of the form. The person that works in the office in the community where the lot is told us that we have to get a form signed by my grandmother or her legal POA. Can you please tell us what the form is called and how to get the process completed.

Re: getting land in my name

It is not as simple as that, but close. You need to either have your grandmother execute a Statutory Durable General Power of Attorney so that you can sign documents on her behalf or, even better, you need to open title with a title company and have your grandmother execute a warranty deed to you in such a fashion that you can obtain title insurance at the time of closing. I am happy to assist you further if you would like. Email my paralegal, Carrie, at "[email protected]" with your contact information and she will get in touch with you to arrange for an office consultation free of charge. The we can discuss your options more fully and agree upon a fee for further representation, if you need it.
