Guardianship

We are listed in the will of ''the Smiths'' as the guardians of their kids in the event of ''the Smiths'' untimely death. Are we legally bound to take in and raise their kids or can we back out after the fact?

You are not bound by the terms of the will, and can back out whenever you so choose. However, in all fairness, you should inform the Smiths that you have serious reservations about the guardianship, so they can revise their wills and choose someone else.
