Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

DUI for 18 year old child

My 18 year old daughter was arrested for DUI last week. Her blood alchohol level was .11. She is freely going to surrender her license in order to save our insurance rates. What kind of penalties are possible for her and should we consider hiring a lawyer?

Thanks~ Donna

Yes, you should more than just consider; you should hire the experienced defense counsel who will ensure that all of your daughter's rights are properly protected and who may be able to minimize at least some of the adverse consequences that normally burden the defendant

who is convicted of DUI.

You should definitely have her represented by legal counsel, as there is the potential for jail time with this charge. If this is a first offense, I would suspect she will receive a 6 month license suspension (restricted license available), a $500 fine, suspended jail time, and participation in VASAP. This is merely speculation, as the facts of each particular case will dictate the outcome.
