Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Appear in court

I was involved with a guy and broke up a few weeks ago. Then a woman called me up one day asking if i know him. She said that she had a baby with him and found my number on his phone. She suspected that he was cheating on her with me. I told her that we broke up a week before. Now, she's making a case against him to take full custody of the baby saying that he assauted her because she looked thru his phone.

It seems that they might make me appear me in court to testify. I don't want to get involve in this mess. Is it possible that they can make me come to court? Can she do that based on the conversation

Re: Appear in court

"...he assaulted her because she looked through his phone"? No, I would doubt that the local office of Commonwealth's Attorney would be issuing you a witness subpoena for this alleged assault case since you apparently would not likely be in a position to testify to anything relevant and admissible as evidence that may have happened in that particular case.

And, even if the court matter involved merely custody, it's also unlikely that you would have any

evidence to offer at a hearing which the court would consider relevant and therefore admissible in this civil case.
