Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Paternity issues/child support

I have been paying child support for my daughter based on an arrangement between myself and the mother. My name is not on the birth certificate and I have never filed to become the legal father through the filing of the state's Voluntary Paternity Acknowledgment form, or through a paternity court action. If I decide to stop paying child support right now, before the child is 18 and still in high school, can the mother take me to court and ask for past child support and future child support?

Re: Paternity issues/child support

Under Virginia law, the mother can ask for back child support to the date her petition for support was filed and future support to the date the child graduates from high school or turns 19, whichever

occurs first.
