Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia

Car Hijacking

A friend was carjacked, due to fear he did not call 911 until the next day. The police blew him off and accused him of lying like other hispanic. He reported the vehicle to the insurance, and an officer did take the case. He has had no word of his vehicle. The insurance called and told him his vehicle was found a week and half ago. If he did not contact the police within two days they were not responsible for damages which may have occured during that week. (How would they know?) Again he was never contacted, but two days prior to the call they said they were still looking into the case, no mention it had been found. When the insurance was questioned why he was not notified, he was told they were unable to contact him due to lack of contact information. So how did they call him now?? Why did the police not notify it had been found?? How did the insurance know the vehicle was found?? They were told to get a rental vehicle which they paid out of pocket and have not been reimbursed. To me the insurance company is trying to wash their hands and not have to pay. My advice would be for them to involve a lawyer, however finances are not in their favor at the moment, is it worth it? Any advice appreciated. Discrimination??

Re: Car Hijacking

If the insurer continues to refuse to pay, your friend will need to retain an attorney in order to change their approach to this matter.
