Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Ive been a cook at a local family pub for over 2 years now and have only gotten in trouble once or twice for minor things i.e forgot to close back door. 4 weeks ago my boss took me off the schedual even until this day and has yet to give me a reason. He does this every year to atleast 2 people front and back of house. He does this because his 2 kids come home from school and he gives them the hpurs the rest of us have worked all year for. He does in after sumer when hours are cut low for winter. Is it legal to take a full time employee off the schedual for months at a time just to let your kid work.

Sure, as long as this employee is not working under the protection

of a contract that would prohibit this practice.
