cut in pay

last summer i was told by my employer that i had to take a pay cut or ''not work'' i work at a private military school i had to use vacation time to keep my pay at my usual rate can i recover my lost pay &/or time? is there an exemtion to virginia law because this is a private institution?

In the Commonwealth of Virginia there is no requirement that employers provide paid vacation

time to employees or even sick leave, for that matter. Nor is there any requirement that private employers pay an employee any particular salary for any particular job.

If your salary was cut by your employer and, consequently, you used your paid vacation time to compensate for the cut in salary in order to keep it at its previous level, neither the time nor salary expended in this exercise would be "recoverable".
