Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Unfair termination

I was fired from a job a few years ago for ''excessive tardiness''. I know that there are people still working there who were just as ''excessively tardy'' as me but are in different departments. My performance reviews were otherwise excellent, but I was not a ''yes man'' for the company's business manager. I was denied for unemployment benefits. If they have rules about tardiness, don't they have to apply them across the board and not just to people they don't like? How can they get by firing some and not other offenders? There is a timeclock in use and they do have records on everyone's time. Do I have a case or is there some government agency I can file with so maybe they won't keep doing this to good people who work hard but miss the punch by a few minutes?

Re: Unfair termination

You're out of luck. In VA someone can be fired for any reason or no reason at all as long as the person is not fired for being a member of a protected class. On your next job just try to be on time.
