Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

My son has a dog which is contained in a 6 foot fence. He is normally not at all agressive; however, the roommate didn't completely latch the gate and the dog got out and attacked a small dog that was being walked by the owner. We made sure the dog got tot he emergency vet and we have paid the expenses for that but now the owner has said that surgery may still be necessary. This dog has never bitten anyone or any other animal before. Is my son 100% responsible for this dog's medical bills forever? The dog had a fatty growth which is where his dog big the dog. Surgery may have to be done to remove the fatty growth.

No, your son cannot be held responsible for this dog's "medical bills

forever", but only for those that are reasonably related to or arising from

the bite inflicted by his dog on the other animal.(Whether that would include the

surgical removal of the"fatty growth" which you've mentioned may or may not be the case.)
