Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
Reckless Driving, out of state, no date on ticket
I was issued a reckless driving citation for going 83 in a 60. I attend vet school in Virginia, but am a Maryland resident. I know that I have to appear in court for this offense and am contemplating getting a lawyer. I have a perfectly clean driving record and I believe that I was pulled over just after crossing into the 60 mph zone and the entire right lane was blocked by trucks, thus limiting my view. Also when I was reading the ticket later on I noticed that in the date field the officer had only written 3/. Because the correct date was not written on the ticket, is that a cause for dismissal or not? What are my options? Thanks

Re: Reckless Driving, out of state, no date on ticket
No, the fact that the date may be wrong on the ticket would not be a basis for dismissing the charge.(The issuing officer will have the correct date.)
Since reckless driving is a jailable offense in the Commonwealth, you should have competent defense counsel representing you in this matter.
