Medications

If a pain specialist writes for a pain med does the work comp have to cover it.

All prescribed medications which an injured employee takes (whether for pain or other reasons) as a result of a workman's compensation covered injury should be covered.

Dear Sir:

If the pain specialist is the authorized treating doctor for your injury and if the pain medication is for that injury, then "yes" the insurance company should cover it. If they refuse file a Claim with the Virginia Workers Compensation Commisssion for the medication but you will need a report from the authorized doctor stating the pain medication is a "necessary" treatment for your injury on the job.

It depends. If the physican is an approved workers' compensation medical provider, the prescription is reasaonable and necessary treatment and it is for your work accident, then yes.
