Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Washington

Im 16 and my boyfriends 20 can this be a problem

I am 16 years old and in foster care, my boyfriend is 20 and we have been together for a year and 5 months, the state has been very aware of this the entire time and has met him on several occasions because we also have a baby who is 3 months old. We are just like every couple, he works and im about to start college in the spring because i have my G.E.D, we take very good care of our son considering the cercomstances. I just want to know that after all this time, can they get him in trouble even after knowing about it all this time?

Yes - and not just with the state authorities. Anyone can report the situation to Child Protective Services and allege that you have been statutority raped.

I know you're very smart, or you wouldn't be starting college at 16. You are smart to be concerned that your boyfriend could get into trouble.

This one is over my head - I don't know of any way to protect your boyfriend. Two routes I can think of are (1) for you to petition the court to have you considered to be an adult (this is called emancipation) and/or (2) for you to get married (but please, be smart, and have an attorney help you with a prenuptial agreement before you take that step).

I hope someone else on this Board can come up with better advice for you.

Merry
