Legal Question in Technology Law in Washington

Is a contract signed by a person under 18 legally binding?

I was wondering if a person in the state of Washington who was under 18 at that time (by a month) signed a contract with the company he/she works for, is that contract legally binding or is it void? The part I was wondering if it is valid is that, the contract says the employee cannot work at another company like this one for 12 months after being fired/let go/quitting.

Generally, someone less than 18 can't enter into this type of contract. So probably it won't be considered as a valid contract if nothing was done to confirm it after turning 18. But our WA member attorney would need to confirm that.

The contract signed by a person under the age of 18 is not binding, but continuing to work under it after the person turns 18 may result in ratificaton of the contract. You may want to resubmit this question under the employment section.
