Repossession of an automobile

How far can a repossession co. go? In an effort to reposses my son's vehicle (which is not here, neither is he) I have a repossession co. threating to bring the police here, open my garage, and knocking on my door at wee hours of the morning. How much of this do I have to put up with??

Re: Repossession of an automobile

Absolutely none of it. Contact the Attorney General's office (get there through access.wa.gov) and be prepared to explain the facts - the dates and the times and the threats you have received. This conduct is not permitted, but you have to get to the right person to make it stop.

Repo companies cannot "breach the peace" to recover collateral. If you can prove they are acting as you say, the AG can shut them down. Alternatively, you can look for private counsel to assist you. If you cannot afford a lawyer, contact Pierce County's Volunteer Legal Services and ask them for help.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell

None of the behavior you describe is allowed. If you call the attorney general, that company will have a big problem . You can also sue in civil court and should be able to win if you can prove your claims.
