Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Third Degree Theft/Bench Warrant

I have a mandatory court appearance for third degree theft on 05-27-08 and can not make it as I will be out of town to visit my father in California. Will I be arrested when I try to reschedule the following day (05-28-08) and will the judge add on to the current circumstances of my crime because I missed my scheduled court date?

Re: Third Degree Theft/Bench Warrant

You should hire an attorney immediately. I work in King and Snohomish County courts routinely and if your date is in Marysville Municipal Court or a District Court, you have to act immediately. DO NOT simply miss the date and try and explain later because a bench warrant will issue for your arrest. With my 27 years of experience, I can tell you that you shoul dnot try and do this on your own. Good Luck!

Re: Third Degree Theft/Bench Warrant

Spare yourself the warrant fee by hiring a lawyer now who can attempt to move the court date or at least assist you in waiving speedy trial so that you will not get a warrant. What court is this in?
