What do I need to do if I am served a garnishment for a matter that has been settled?

You need to either fight it or lose 25% of your wages or all of the nonexempt portions of your bank account, if it is not a garnishment of wages. Obviously, the person who filed it does not think that that the case is settled. At this late stage, a bankruptcy filing may be the only way to stop it, since creditors rarely will negotiate after spending the money to commence the garnishment. Talk to an experienced bankruptcy lawyer, who will be equally experienced in methods of fighting garnishments.
