Legal Question in Employment Law in Arizona

I live in AZ and was offered a position as Practice Manager. I was hired on the spot. I am 7 months pregnant and was told by one of the interviewers days later that prgnancy was a big issue for the other interviewers, but I was the most qualified. 2 weeks later as I awaited my clearance, offer was recinded saying they went with someone else. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for the inquiry. As long as the employer employs at least 15 employees, Title VII will apply. Under Title VII, it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of pregnancy. In order to pursue a claim under Title VII, you must first file with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission a charge of discrimination. You have 300 days from the date of their denial of your application within which to file a charge.

It is sometimes better to try to obtain a remedy before filing a charge. The threat of filing a charge gives you leverage over the employer. I would recommend you consult an experienced employment attorney for a more comprehensive discussion of your rights.
