Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can an agency try to collect an old traffic fine even if it has been purged?

Can I still be hounded for an old FTP/FTA speeding ticket from Nov. 2000 by a

collection agency even if the offense has been purged from my DMV record? I

also tried to search the online county records where the ticket was issued and

cannot find anything under my name. What is the statute of limitations

regarding the collection of that debt? How should I respond to the agencies

tactics?

I don't know about traffic (or criminal) fines. If you are not responsible for paying that, then you shouldn't pay it. Contact the originating agency and have 'em call off the dogs. If they don't, then you can tell the collectors to never contact you again and consider action under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
