Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

limited civil case under 10,000

I was served a limited civil case for an unpaid hospital bill. I would like to use the ADR Mediation to resolve the matter, but am unsure if this a response to the complaint. I do not want a judgement against me but do not feel the several visit I made before the surgery were necessary had I been diagnosed with needing surgery on first visit.
