Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

Can the teamsters refuse me based on family ties?

I have been a memeber of the teamsters union for the last 2 years. I have relation to the family who owns the business I work for. My union's contract negotiations are coming up and I have been told I am not going to be allowed to participate based on my relation to the family. Is this descrimination? If the union does not allow me to participate and removes me from my paid membership I can no longer be employeed here in my current position. What can I do?

I would interpret this to mean that you will not be allowed to participate in contract negotiations, which could be construed as a conflict of interest.

This is reasonable, but they cannot prevent you from working at the company or removing you from the union without more cause.
