Legal Question in DUI Law in California

Guilty!

I was stopped and arrested for my first DUI a few days ago.

I was definitely drunk! I admit it!

Why should I hire a lawyer and pay him or her almost two grand to claim myself guilty and take my punihment. It's only a misdeamenor! So I pay a fine, take alcohol awareness classes, AA meetings...... I don't see ANY jail time! It's my first offense and I will show the judge I'm remorseful! I was stupid to drink and drive! How is a lawyer gonna help me? I'm guilty! I did drink and drive! Why lie to the judge about this fact!??

Re: Guilty!

There are good legal arguments even if you were drunk as you say. Moreover, avoiding a DUI is best for your insurance. Lastly, a second DUI can result in very strict fines and other issues as well.

This is all your choice of course. Just be sure you are making the choice not on the quickdraw thought to go on the cheap, and rather armed with a full arsenal of information.

Re: Guilty!

Consider, in addition to the good points that Mr. Hale makes, that whether you "see any jail time" depends upon the judge, the court you are in and the blood alcohol content. That is why it is a good idea for you to have a lawyer.

Re: Guilty!

Even if you are guilty, you should never plead guilty without first negotiating with the DA. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the court and the DA is likely to get whatever he asks for. We offer a free consultation and our rates are very reasonable.
