Legal Question in Family Law in California

need some direction
I am currently in the navy, My ex husband took my child as I a was out to sea. Welived in san diego and he took the child to San Francisco. Did not leave a note or nothing. I found him and he said he is going to live up there with his family he said he will fight for full custody. The divorce is final as of 6th of Nov. but the papers were written up with a mediator and not a lawyer. So it is not very good detail and very vague. It just says joint custody. I am in the process of hiring an attorney but have no ideal of what all I can do. He denies me the right to go pick my child up and spend time with him unless he is there. I have been in this country for only 10 yrs. and do not understand this whole process. My ex husband says nomatter what I do he is getting my child.. unfortunately he is very intimidating to me. I just need some direction as to figure out how to get my child back. please would greatly appreciate any assistance in this matter. Would like to see my child for Christmas..

You would most likely file a motion to modify child custody and visitation schedule.
