Legal Question in Employment Law in California

We found out this morning at a 10 AM that our store was closing. We all as of that time found ourselves out of work as well as out the door. Is this legal in Calif.?

There is still 3 other chain stores left but no offers of positions there.

Should they have given us notice? We got no severence pay.

Thank you,

That depends on how many employees were laid off at one time. If it was over 50, there may be a CAL-WARN action. If not, no they are not required to give you any notice in advance, nor a position elsewhere.
