Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I gave up a job to come work for a man who promised he would pay me a thousand dollars a week for the next 9 weeks. I did my first week of work he only payed me 600 and 400 in a post dated check. The check turned out to be no good. Now he is not answering my calls. I have a series of emails detailing our agreement and also me expressing to him how tight my financial situation was. Stating I could only come work for him if this agreement was fulfilled and him agreeing. Can I sue him for the 9 weeks of work promised me?

You sure can. Doesn't seem too likely he'll be able to pay the judgment though.

Sure. Better yet, file a claim with the Labor Commissioner instead of spending money on court filing fees and lawyers, since I wouldn't expect you will ever collect any money from him. Bounced checks should tell you he has no money.
