Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Meal Periods

Can a California employer make their employees clock out for lunch to attend a mandatory company meeting, even if food is provided? If not, what is the California Labor Code for that?

Re: Meal Periods

No, they can incent the employees to attend by offering a free lunch, but if it's mandatory, it has to be paid, free lunch or not.

Re: Meal Periods

Not sure what the code is, but I am certain that if the meeting is mandatory and work related, the employee must be compensated for it. In addition, this will not be considered a meal break as the employee is not relieved of all work duties as he/she should be in order to have a legitimate meal break.

Thanks.
