Legal Question in Employment Law in California

This question pertains to tuition reimbursement in the state of CA.

I left my previous company and 1 1/2 yrs later I received a collection notice for repayment of $1500 in tuition for the last year of my employment. Are there any labor laws that mandate tuition reimbursement must be paid back upon termination? I have no interest in paying back the tuition especially since my former employer refused to pay out my three weeks of vacation.

Your answer will be found in your company's policies and rules. There is no law on it, other than that they can collect if they have a policy right to it, and as long as they bring the claim within the statute of limitations of probably four years. Generally, education and similar payments are conditioned on certain length of employment after payment. You leave, you default and owe some or all of the money back..
