Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I worked for a non profit organization that got its funding a government program. The problem is that i could never get paid. the company still owes me 1500 dollars. I can't afford to get an attorney so I am thinking of going to small claims. I have tried to get help and can't i honestly believe this is bigger than i can imagine. I think all this money is ending up in someones pocket. I contacted the government program that is funding them and they claim that they have been funding the company i worked for every month. They tell me there is nothing they can do.I dont understand how the people who are funding them can just say that. I mean a lot of tax dollars are being mishandled and they know this and they say they can't do anything. they tell me to call a lawyer.

You can and should file a claim with the Labor Commissioner, not in small claims court, for any unpaid wages, plus interest and penalties. You can hire an attorney to represent you, and are entitled to your fees if you win.

The "Labor Commissioner" no longer exists. The position has been replaced by the Dept. of Industrial Relations, Bureau of Labor Standards Enforcement. You can find them on the web by Googling their name. They will help you get paid.
