New owners of the rental, however no new lease was drawn?

I moved into this apartment in Sept. Been wishing I could leave, as the drug activity is horrid, two gunshots where fired into the downstairs last week, and the violence and poverty here is doing nothing for my depression and anxiety issues. The complex close escrow two weeks ago, however I have no new lease, nor have I signed any forms for the new owners. Can I legally get out of this lease the former owners hold? PLEASE HELP

The change in ownership of the apartment building does not void your old lease or mean that the new owners need to sign a new lease with you. The new owners have the same rights that the old owners did, and they have the same obligations that the old owners did.

However, the drug activity and danger from gunfire may provide grounds to break the lease. I suggest that you contact the new owners, or hire an attorney to contact the new owners, discuss the problems you are experiencing, and ask/suggest that they let you end the lease early without going to the trouble of having a legal dispute.
