Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Showing CDL

I have my CDL and drive for a CA freight company. When delivering to customers on my city delivery route, the customers have started asking me for my CDL. They are not just wanting to see my lic. they want me to physically hand them my lic. so that they can make a copy of my lic. Do people other than my employer, insurnace company, or police officers have the right to my lic.? and do they have a right do demand to make a copy?

Re: Showing CDL

Thank you for your inquiry.

If you consent, anyone can look at, or copy, your driver's license. If you don't, then they have the right not to do business with you. I believe that you will find many companies instituted policies after September 11, 2001, that maintains more control over what trucks or personnel visit their companies for doing business.

I hope that this helps, but if you need more information, have other questions, or feel that you need legal representation, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. I am happy to help in any way that I can.
