Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Parent lfet no will

My mother passed away left no will.

No probate, because there is no property.

Only personal items and a car she owes money on.

What do i need to take care of her estate.

(worth is probably less than $6000.00)

Based on your facts, it appears that your mother's estate would be legally classified as a "small estate." Generally, if there are no other beneficiaries, and she has no real property (which it does not appear that she does from your facts), then a formal probate is not required. Instead, you would simply need to get a copy of the death certificate and present it to the DMV or any bank in which she had funds for title to pass to you.

Of course, this is based on the limited facts you gave me. If there are other assets other than those you listed, the situation may be different.
