Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Workers Comp - hire a lawyer for Qualified Medical Evaluator?

I am in the process of filing for Worker's Comp. I was sent a letter to choose a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) to evaluate the case. My injury is a work-related Repetitive Stress Injury.

I have seen responses to posts that mention that hiring a lawyer can result in a better outcome than using the doctor I am assigned, but I am unsure how the process works in that case. Do I refuse to choose a QME and not return the form I was sent?

Has anyone been through this process who can advise me on it?

Also -- recommendations for a lawyer who handles this in the SF Bay area much appreciated.

Yes, the postings are correct. The employer loves those who do not hire attorneys because the insurance companies have the opportunity to take advantage of the injured worker.

Unfortunately I am about 400 miles south of you. Contact the California Applicant's Attoney's Association and they should refer you to a qualified attorney in your area.

Good luck.
