Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in District of Columbia

My mother recently passed away. We sent out copies of her death certificate to her creditors. We have received a letter from her bank stating that she had a consolidation loan and they want to know if there was an estate. What should we do at this point?

If she had assets, see a lawyer. If not, creditors have no recourse.....but with "consolidation loan" there was probably some security...
